This week's news

Posted by Julie Voyce on October 24, 2007 5:09 PM

This week I have been news editing as my news editor Chene has been on leave.
In Chalfont St Peter the sniper has struck again prompting a businessman to put up a £1,000 reward to help get who ever it is caught. I can't believe something like this is going on in the village, mind you police seem to think it is an air rifle, I guess if we lived in South London it would be a 'proper' gun and they wouldn't be aiming at shop windows. Still, we are lucky no one has been injured yet. Let's hope the reward encourages someone to come forward.
In Chesham a meeting has been held which promises that the Healthzone will become a reality, we just have to wait until 2009. What a farce this has become. First of all Chesham Hospital was closed down witht he promise that the healthzone would replace it's services, then, surprise, surprise, it all starts to go wrong. We'll be watching how things develop and will be holding the PCT to it's 2009 promise.

Holiday blues?

Posted by Julie Voyce on October 21, 2007 6:52 PM

I've just returned from a holiday to The Gambia with the Mr where it was 35 and sunny every day. We arrived at a very chilly Gatwick aiport on Friday at 4am and I fully expected to wake up later that day with the post holiday blues.
Amazingly though I pulled back the curtains to a perfect English autumn day, clear blue sky, sunshine and the trees going through the various shades of orange.
Crikey, I thought, it's not that bad being back! You don't get days like this is The Gambia!
Today, Sunday, we have just been for a beautiful walk in the countryside followed by a couple of pints of Guiness in the local and currently a chicken is roasting away in the oven.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the sun, I love going on holiday, but I don't half love home!

DIY maturity

Posted by Julie Voyce on October 2, 2007 5:38 PM

I must be maturing - I've just survived a DIY project without falling out with the Mr.
I stopped off at the DIY shop on Friday to buy the paint needed for decorating our spare room/office and dreaded the weekend ahead.
You see DIY usually ends in a massive row. Neither of us are particularly handy but we just couldn't live with the lilac walls any longer and I fear I had asked my dad for one favour too many it the last few weeks.
To be fair I did nearly lose the plot when I couldn't get the Mr out of bed to start the project on Saturday morning. You see once I know we have got to get something done I just want to get stuck in and get it finished. The Mr doesn't work like this. We eventually started at about 2pm with various trips up and down the stairs to check on football and rugby scores.
I have to say it went very well all in all and we were a real team, he did the ceiling which I hate and I did the cutting in, a job he hates.
I felt quite proud of us! But it definitely confirms my fears that I am getting old. Ten years ago I wouldn't have got pleasure from a newly painted room, but now I keep going in and smiling at the walls. I think the fumes might have got to me!
