Best auntie
Posted by Julie Voyce on November 15, 2007 11:27 AM
On Saturday I received an email from sister asking me if I could help her find a Swimming Baby Born.
What the heck is that was my first reaction. A Google search revealed a pretty ugly looking doll that apparently swims in the bath. Ugly to you and me, but a must have Christmas toy for my four-year-old niece. My sister spent several hours trying to hunt down one of these dolls, it's like the 2007 version of the Telly Tubbie.
'Julie' she frantically wrote, 'I can't believe I am doing this, but it's all she wants for Christmas, please help'.
I called The Entertainer, looked at Woolworths, Toy R Us, but no, it was sold out. I even checked Ebay where they are going for double the retail price.
My sister called the manufacturer and was told they would be out of stock until January.
Luck must have been on my side for I managed to get the last one at Argos in Aylesbury. Maybe someone returned it as apparently it had been sold out the day before and is sold out at every other store.
Off I went to pick it up, convinced when I got there it would not be available, but I am pleased to report I have it.
How ridiculous, but I felt so proud, like the best auntie in the world!
My hero plumber!

The heating packed in this week and I thought I would be in for weeks of feeling chilly as I hunted for a plumber that was free to come round, and stuck to the appointment time.
I called a plumber who had done some work for my brother-in-law earlier in the year and left a message on his answerphone, 'That'll be the last I hear from him' my cynical self thought.
But no, he called back last night. Not only that he said he'd come this morning at 8am before a job he had today, not only that, he arrived at 8am, exactly as he said he would, not only that but he mended the problem in ten minutes (something to do with a valve in the pump?!), then, get this, he has said we can pay later as he going to come back to service the boiler in a few weeks.
My faith in mankind has been restored, I have found my hero!
